The Southern Kennebec Valley Area is an ideal place in which to live and work. It is an attractive, vibrant community that offers the "good life" four seasons of the year.

A glance on the highway map shows that "all roads lead to Augusta," the hub of the Kennebec Valley. New residents and visitors are assured of a warm, friendly welcome.

The 60,000 person community is located astride the revived, history rich Kennebec River. The area is 39 miles from Maine’s fabled rock bound coast, 60 miles from Maine’s largest city, Portland, and less than 90 minutes from Maine’s beautiful destination ski resorts, such as Sugarloaf and Sunday River. The area is 60 air miles from the New Hampshire border and less than a three-hour drive to Boston. Living in the southern Kennebec Valley region you can live in a bustling small city or in a rural atmosphere just minutes from the center of town. Within a few minutes one can drive into the open countryside and enjoy the invigorating fresh air and appreciate the great outdoors. There are over 100 lakes and ponds in the region, including the famous Belgrade Lakes and the Winthrop Lakes Region. The seasonal climate is also conducive to the "good life"—summer temperatures average a pleasant 72°F while the winter averages 24°F.

Employment in the region is vigorous and stable. It consists of a broad base of state, federal, and private employers. Some of our larger, recognized organizations include: Central Maine Power, the Veterans Administration, MaineGeneral Medical Center, the State of Maine, NorthCenter Food Services, EJ Prescott, Pine State Trading, and NRF Distributors. Like most of Maine, the Kennebec Valley region is geared for four-season activity. Nordic and alpine skiing, cycling, boating, water skiing, golf, tennis, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, bowling, fishing, hunting, trapping, and hiking are just some of the activities enjoyed by area residents and thousands of tourists each year. There are many fine summer cottages, camps, and publicly owned parks; plus tennis areas and trailer facilities to satisfy the outdoor minded. Being at the head of navigation on the Kennebec River the area attracts boaters from around New England. In addition, near the Fourth of July, the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts the Great Kennebec "WHATEVER" family Festival. It won’t take you long to realize that the southern Kennebec valley region is a tremendous community—large enough to have many features of the big city, yet small enough to appreciate your neighbors and a wonderful quality of life. We’re convinced you’ll enjoy it.
