If you're ready to dust off your ice skates this winter, you're not alone. Ice skating is practically the official state pastime here in Maine, and if you've never ice skated before, Maine is the perfect place to learn.
Our real estate agents look forward to ice skating season, and it's finally here! Of course, there's one place in town where you don't have to worry about the weather at all – the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
Home to the Maine Moose ice hockey team and the Skating Association of Maine, the Maine Ice Vault is one of the premier ice rinks in the state. It opened its doors in 2012, replacing the former Kennebec Ice Arena, which collapsed under the weight of snow in 2011.
Since opening to the public, the Maine Ice Vault is the place for hockey games, ice skating classes, figure skating competitions, and all kinds of winter sporting events. But it's arguably best known for public ice skating.
The Maine Ice Vault is open to the public year-round for ice skating most mornings. Occasionally, public skating is canceled for other special events. Public Skate tickets are available for $5 ($4 for those under the age of 6 and over the age of 65). Ice skate rentals are available, though you're also welcome to bring your own.
Ice skating at the Maine Ice Vault is an excellent opportunity for family fun in any season, whether you're looking for winter fun in Maine or are looking for a unique way to spend a summer day. Most Public Skate sessions are open to all ages, but an adult-only Public Skate is also available on Wednesday mornings.
In addition to regular Public Skate sessions, the Maine Ice Vault also offers "Learn To Skate" classes, with open online registration. Youth and adult skating lessons are available, including figures skating instruction.
This holiday season we're especially excited about Skate With Santa, which takes place at the Maine Ice Vault on Friday, December 14 at 6:20 pm. The event includes a figure skating exhibition, Learn to Skate, Intro to Figure Skate and Synchro skaters. Santa will join the skaters on the ice at 6:30, and invite all audience members to join him. There will be opportunities for family photos afterward.
