Augusta Bakeries

Our real estate agents know that there are plenty of great reasons to choose Augusta homes for sale. A terrific local dining culture is one of them – and that includes breakfast!

Some hail it as the most important meal of the day, and you won't have to go without it. Augusta is rich with coffee shops and bakeries perfect for getting a morning meal and a caffeine fix.

With National Doughnut Day just around the corner, it's the right time to check them out.

National Doughnut Day is June 5 – a Friday this year. If a sweet treat sounds like it would hit the spot, you're in luck. Even though table service isn't available right now, lots of local restaurants are open for curbside takeout or delivery. Warm, tasty doughnuts await.

Sure, nationwide chains often offer something on National Doughnut Day, too. But for a true taste of Augusta, we recommend these four bakeries.

  1. Slate's Restaurant – 161 Water Street, Hallowell, ME, 04347
Slate's Restaurant is a local institution with a long and storied history. One of the first Maine restaurants to open for takeout service, it is now offering its complete dinner menu. Orders start at 4 p.m. every day from Thursday to Sunday. In addition to entrees like spiced haddock and country chicken pie, you can put in orders for the delectable delicacies at Slate's Bakery.
  2. Aroma Joe's Coffee – 205 Western Avenue, Augusta, ME, 04330
Aroma Joe's is a popular coffee chain that can be found all around Maine. It's known for memorable coffee blends like black raspberry, sticky bun, dark mocha, and mint patty. With so many fierce flavors to choose from, it's no surprise there's also doughnuts ideal for dunking. You can also enjoy cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, croissants, and the stuffed Super Pretzel.
  3. Apple Valley Bakery – 829 Main Street, Monmouth, ME, 04259
A full bakery serving up a range of lip-smacking pastries, Apple Valley Bakery will entice you with its enchanting aroma. With more than a dozen specialty cupcakes, unforgettable cheesecakes, and fresh breads, there's always something new to sample. The doughnuts include apple spice, maple glaze, coconut, chocolate frosted, and many more from the classic to the exotic.
  4. Engine 5 Bakehouse – 140 Western Avenue, Waterville, ME, 04901
Found in a restored firehouse in Waterville's historic district, Engine 5 Bakehouse bills itself as "Your Neighborhood Bakery." And this place truly does it all: Freshly baked fruit pies, cookies, biscuits, cakes, cupcakes, and savory items like pot pies, soups, and beans. Doughnuts, cinnamon buns, and coffee cake are some of the selections just right for National Doughnut Day.

National Doughnut Day only comes once a year, but living in Augusta is always sweet. To find out more about real estate opportunities right here in Augusta, contact us today.
