Timeless Kitchen Updates

Kitchen renovations can be expensive, so wise homeowners who are thinking about selling their homes someday choose upgrades that will stay in style for a reasonable number of years, rather than trendier changes that will look dated too soon. When you list your house among Augusta homes for sale, you are more likely to get a positive reaction from potential homebuyers if you keep renovations simple and understated.

Our REALTORS® can advise you on making your home look its best when you put it on the market.

Here are seven tips for a timeless look and feel as you plan your kitchen renovations.

  1. Whites, off-whites ord a neutral palette for kitchen components always look right.
Though understated, these color schemes lend an air of calmness and sophistication that can also look bright, airy, and clean. The monochromatic palette for countertops, cabinets, and appliances allows you to add pops of color elsewhere that are easy to change to suit your mood. Neutral tones are also helpful as a background for potential homebuyers to imagine their home furnishings in a new setting.

  2. Check out perennial countertop favorites.
Stone countertops never go out of style, and white seems to be a top color choice. Durable, beautiful, and generally low maintenance, white marble, durable granite, or streaky quartz are perennial favorites. But while quartz, a manufactured stone, is one of the toughest, resisting scratches, chips, and burns, and generally requiring less maintenance than granite, it doesn't stand up to a hot pot as well as granite. With marble, you'll need to seal it well, as it's porous and can stain.

  3. Let natural woods shine.
If your kitchen has natural wood, consider refinishing it rather than painting over it. Natural wood has a calming appeal. White Shaker-style cabinetry is very popular now, but so is showing off the natural grain of beautiful wood.

  4. Go for an over-sized, single-level island.
Islands today do so much more than in the past. Their multi-functionalism might include a place for food prep, eating breakfast and snacking, looking over homework, gathering with family and friends, and even a charging station for the laptop and phone.

  5. What's up with storage?
Who wouldn't welcome more storage? Increases in storage space are always welcome. But the most dominant trend is for more customized storage, such as built-in drawer organizers, pull-out cabinet inserts for canned goods, pots and pans, and toe-kick doors for cutting boards and other hard-to-store essentials.

  6. Stick with appliances that never look tired.
Stainless steel appliances are always in. If you have stainless in your kitchen and the finishes have been well maintained, stick with them. White appliances have also made a comeback and are compatible with that Shaker cabinet look.

  7. Add copper for a quietly elegant touch.
Copper pots and pans are useful and beautiful in a well-appointed kitchen; why not spread the warmth around by adding copper drawer pulls and knobs, or going for broke with copper faucets and sinks?
