Riding the waves of the real estate market can sometimes feel like trying to predict the future. Our real estate agents get it right often, but there's always an element of surprise. Interior design trends are closely linked to real estate trends, and as we look forward to a new year, we're keeping an eye on both.
These are the paint colors we expect to play a big role in 2021. Whether you're making some improvements before listing your Augusta home for sale, or you simply want to revive your living space, be sure to consider these unique shades!
Comforting Beige
After the insane whirlwind of a year that was 2020, the next year's colors are going to be driven by comfort. And beige has comfort written all over it. But if you hear "beige" and think "bland," try to rid yourself of that notion right out of the gate. Beige can do a lot to transform a space, and it's also worth remembering that beige itself is a pretty varied palette. Check out Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige family of colors, for example.
From a warm, sandy gray to a warmer tan similar to the color of light brown sugar, there are many options in the beige spectrum. Beige colors also have the ability to go with anything, and painting a room with these unobtrusive tones can make pops of color — like bright yellow or vibrant crimson decor — really catch the eye.
All Shades of Blue
Blue has a way of refreshing a space. It can meld with almost any architectural or interior decorating style. It feels right at home in any climate and any region. Blue paint has always been popular, and there's no reason to expect that to change, but a couple of specific shades of blue are poised to take off in 2021.
The first is deep blue, so blue perhaps that it's almost black. This shade combines well with natural browns and lighter neutrals for a warm, balanced look that's bold but not off-putting. Don't use it in your bedroom, but it can give sitting rooms and home offices a feeling of deep comfort. The other blue we like this year is a cheerful, muted blue such as Glidden's Aqua Fiesta. This is a perfect color for accent walls and millwork. It can be a bit much for painting a whole room with, but a dash of it brings out the best in other colors.
Don't Forget Your Greens
If like many of us, you've spent more than your fair share of time indoors this year, then you might be itching to bring some of the colors of nature into your living space. We expect shades of green to be big in 2021, including a few particular variations. Pale, "creamy" green colors, in particular, can give your space a relaxing atmosphere. Think of the interior color of a perfectly ripe avocado.
But another great choice is a deep, cool green. These are great colors for making kitchens and dining rooms feel rejuvenated, and they're also perfect for painting doors in a lighter-colored hallway. Behr makes a color called Royal Orchard that we really love. Pair it with sunny, optimistic colors like saffron or magenta to make your home feel warm, welcoming, and well-balanced.
