Augusta Winter Outdoors

The winter season is upon us so let's waste no time enjoying the snow-filled fun. Our real estate agents are bundled up and ready to slide into as many winter activities around Augusta as we can. From ice skating and skiing to snowshoeing and snowmobiling, here are five fun outdoor activities around the Kennebec Valley that you can do this winter.

  1. Camden National Bank Ice Vault — 203 Whitten Rd., Hallowell, ME 04347
Also known as the Maine Ice Vault, the Camden National Bank Ice Vault is a family-friendly indoor rink. They offer public skate sessions, as well as public shinny sessions for those who want to improve their stick and puck skills alone or during a pickup hockey game. If you already spend all of your time at the rink, why not visit a few Hallowell homes for sale next time you're in town so you can live as close to the ice as possible.

  2. Viles Arboretum — 153 Hospital St., Augusta, ME 04330
The Viles Arboretum is a botanical garden open for free to the public. Though you may not see many flowers springing up in the seven botanical collections, you are free to strap on your snowshoes and walk through six miles of trails. You're welcome to bring your four-legged friend, too, but remember that the Viles Arboretum closes at dusk, so be sure to time your snowshoeing adventure wisely.

  3. Bond Brook Recreation Area — 21-25 Bond Brook Rd., Augusta, ME 04330
Augusta is home to plenty of trails, but we prefer visiting the Bond Brook Recreation Area to ski their Nordic trails. Fives miles of ski trails have been carved out and dedicated only for skiers. Those who want to mountain bike, snowshoe, or hike can walk the other non-skiing trails around the recreation area.

  4. Cobbosseecontee Trails — 314 Spears Corner Rd., West Gardiner, ME 04345
Kick your winter season into high gear with the Cobbosseecontee Snowmobiling Club. This group of avid snowmobilers maintains more than 25 miles of local trail in West Gardiner, which connects to other trails in Litchfield, Hallowell, Farmingdale, and Gardiner. No matter which trails you tackle, be sure to remain courteous during your ride as many run through privately owned land.

  5. Williams Park — 59 Bangor St., Augusta, ME 04330
If you're in the mood for instant winter fun, head to Williams Park for an afternoon in the snow. This sprawling green space becomes a winter wonderland perfect for snowball fights, building snowmen, or making snow angels. When visiting with kids, make sure you pack a thermos of hot cocoa so you all can stay warm while you play.
