Book Display Ideas

If you're like most book lovers, you might find it hard to part with your favorite reads. This is one reason why many of us book lovers eventually turn into book hoarders. Keeping a collection of your favorite books isn't necessarily a bad thing, but books do take up a lot of space in your home. If your books are collecting dust in the corner or filling up space in your closet, you might want to consider transforming your collection into a stylish display.

Our real estate agents are big readers, and they compiled a list of their favorite, most creative ways to show off their book collections.

  1. Create Patterns On Your Bookshelf
Putting books on a shelf can really create a stuffy library vibe. Instead, try organizing your books into visually appealing patterns can really make a room pop. Group books by colors or by size. Create stacks of vertical books next to a section of horizontal books. A little bit of rhythm is an easy way to make your bookshelf look more appealing. Simply play around with it until you find something that looks appealing.

  2. Construct A DIY Coffee Table
You can actually create your own coffee table by using four stacks of books to prop up a flat surface. Make sure to pick interesting titles, so you can really make it a conversation piece. Just make sure each stack of books is stable and the same height.

  3. Display Them On Your Mantel
Optimize your mantel space by displaying some of your favorite reads or most visually appealing books. Organize them with spines facing in or out, or even place the books so the covers are facing out. You may even try separating the books with decorative mantelpieces.

  4. Store Them In Mounted Baskets
If you're concerned about your books taking up too much floor or shelf space, try placing them in baskets mounted on the wall. You may want to consider installing the baskets near a chair in the corner of your bedroom or living room in order to create a cozy reading nook. You'll save a lot of space!

  5. Store Them In An Unused Fireplace
An empty, non-working fireplace is actually a great place to store books. Not only is it convenient, but it can also be a great way to compliment a decorative mantel. Simply sort your books into piles and place them inside the fireplace to create a smart, sophisticated look.

  6. Create An End Table
A group of well-stacked books next to the bed can actually make a great end table. Just be careful that it doesn't easily topple over and use hardcovers for the table surface. Four distinct stacks at different heights can create an interesting vibe.

  7. Add Wall Cubbies
This idea is great for a living room or office. Add some wall cubby shelving to your room and select your favorite books to add to the display. Stack books horizontally or vertically, and separate them with decorative items.
