International Waffle Day is celebrated on March 25, so forget about skipping breakfast or settling for a routine bowl of cereal. Instead, head out to a Kennebec Valley restaurant to sample some local flavor and get your day started with a delicious waffle.
  
Our real estate agents suggest trying one of the following breakfast spots to satisfy your craving for waffles:

  1. Mulholland's Augusta House of Pancakes – 100 Western Ave., Augusta, ME, 04330  
    Family-owned Mulholland's Augusta House of Pancakes, located just around the corner from Augusta homes for sale, has served delicious breakfasts to Maine residents for over 40 years. Although "pancakes" is in the restaurant's name, it serves up many more than just flapjacks for breakfast – including waffles. Try the Belgian waffle, in your choice of plain or whole wheat, and top it off with fruit and whipped cream to make it even more of a treat. Hours are 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
      
  2. Aunt Gin's Restaurant – 48 Augusta Rd. (Route 17), Whitefield, ME 04353  
    Located near Whitefield homes for sale, Aunt Gin's Restaurant serves up home-cooked comfort food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is fresh, never frozen or canned, and made from locally grown ingredients when possible. The breakfast menu includes combination plates for larger appetites and a good variety of omelets and breakfast sandwiches. And when you're ready for your waffles, order them with just butter and syrup or add fruit or berries. Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.
      
  3. A1 Diner – 3 Bridge St., Gardiner, ME 04345  
    A1 Diner, located just around the corner from Gardiner homes for sale, has a throwback atmosphere, with booths situated in an original Worcester silver diner car. And it's not just the setting that's great – the food is raved about and has even been featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." Host Guy Fieri recommends the potato hash, which the restaurant has been frying up for over 50 years. Order some with your waffles, which are available plain or blueberry, orange poppy seed, banana walnut, orange pecan, or whole grain. Hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday.
      
  4. Hi-Hat Drive-In – 380 Maine Ave., Farmingdale, ME, 04344    
    Hi-Hat Drive-In, a charming diner located close to Farmingdale homes for sale, has been serving customers for over 40 years. Breakfast is served anytime the restaurant is open, and in addition to other offerings, you'll be able to order a Belgian waffle and add fruit and whipped cream to it if you'd like. Hours are 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday-Saturday.

  5. Selah Tea Café – 177 Main St., Waterville, ME 04901  
    Locally-owned Selah Tea Café is a great spot to enjoy breakfast as you relax in its calm atmosphere, located near Waterville homes for sale. Treat yourself to a Belgian waffle, complete with strawberries, whipped cream, and local maple syrup, and since it's gluten-free, it's perfect if you're trying to adhere to that type of diet. The café also has a wide variety of teas and coffees to enjoy along with your waffle, including bubble tea, mocha latte, espresso, and chai latte. Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
