Organized Kitchen Tips

If the kitchen is the heart of the home, it needs to be clean and organized for the entire home to function well.

Considering that all family members utilize the kitchen throughout the day, it's easy to understand how it can accumulate a lot of clutter. Taking the time to declutter will make it easy to maintain a clean, organized kitchen. Whether you're a talented home chef or mostly use your kitchen for heating up leftovers, follow these tips for an organized kitchen.

  1. Remove Unused or Unfunctional Items
You most likely have storage containers that don't have lids and vice versa. This is especially true with plastic containers. Start by getting rid of these and other items that no longer work or that you don't use anymore. Instead of plastic storage containers, consider switching to glass ones that can go to the fridge or freezer then into the microwave or dishwasher.

  2. Get Rid of Paper
Another switch you should consider making is switching from paper to other alternatives. For instance, stop using paper napkins and go for those made of linen or cotton. They can double as a decorative touch when stacked in a basket. Consider ditching paper towels for cleaning, too, and go for cleaning cloths. Microfiber cleaning cloths are particularly effective. Look through your dishcloths and dish towels and get rid of any that are torn or stained.

  3. Let's Get Cleaning
When you only have functional items in your kitchen, you can get to cleaning. Remove everything from every cabinet, dust it off and then dust the inside and outside of the cabinet. Lay down new shelf paper, then arrange your items neatly on it. Consider using bins to store items together and make them easier to find and put back. Do the same for the kitchen drawers. Here, use dividers to separate items. Finish the outside of the cabinets and drawers with a polishing product, depending on what they are made of.

  4. Organize the Pantry
A related area of your kitchen that you should declutter, clean, and organize at the same time is the pantry. Again, go through everything and throw out food items that are expired or that will not be used. Make an effort to use up items that are almost expiring by preparing food and drinks using them. Dust off the containers and wash out empty ones. Clean the shelves before putting food containers and storage bins back on them. Refresh the space by laying down new shelf paper here as well. Store items together, such as different flour types, to make it easier to find and put things back.
