- Kennebec River - 50 Howard St, Augusta, ME 04330
Forming the core of the Kennebec Valley, the Kennebec River is a productive trout fishery with an abundance of deep holes, riffles, and runs that harbor fish. Brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout all call the river home, and Atlantic salmon make their way upriver every October on their annual spawning run. A stone's throw from these Augusta homes for sale, the Kennebec is a great fly-fishing river that's also easy to float in a kayak or raft. East Side Landing Boat Ramp in Augusta is a great place to start exploring the Kennebec River. The access site is located along the Augusta Greenway Trail, which runs along the riverfront.
- Jamies Pond - Jamies Pond Rd, Farmingdale, ME 04344
A great destination for anyone who prefers to fish in a peaceful, secluded setting, Jamies Pond is just a few miles from Augusta in the small community of Farmingdale. The 107-acre pond has a mostly undeveloped shoreline with an access site at the northern end of the lake. At 8,240 acres, Great Pond would more accurately be called a lake. In fact, it's the largest of a chain of lakes in Kennebec County known as the Belgrade Lakes, all of which offer excellent fishing opportunities near Belgrade homes for sale. Great Pond is known for its trout fishing, and it's home to brook trout and brown trout, as well as landlocked salmon. - Echo Lake - Mount Vernon, ME 04352
Less than 30 minutes from Augusta and close to Mount Vernon homes for sale, Echo Lake is one of the best fishing spots in Kennebec County for a variety of species. This 1,185-acre lake has deep, cold water that supports several trout species—including lake trout, splake, brook trout, and brown trout—while its weedy and rocky shallows provide a home for bass, panfish, and pickerel. It's a beautiful lake to fish in the fall when the lake cools, and trout are more likely to venture into shallow water. The public boat launch at the north end of the lake just off State Route 40 is a great place to start.
