Windsor Fair

Who says goodbyes have to be hard? Bid summer farewell with a bang at the Windsor Fair, the annual showcase event near Augusta homes for sale. Plan this year's visit with a little help from our real estate agents, who share a sneak preview of what to expect.

About the Windsor Fair

With 275 acres and upwards of 150,000 visitors each year, the Windsor Fair is the #2 agricultural fair in Maine, second only to the Fryeburg Fair in October. As their slogan declares, the Windsor Fair has been "A Family Tradition Since 1888." After a hiatus in 2020, the event made a triumphant return last year.

One of the enduring traditions is the unveiling of each year's poster, chosen from submissions by local artists. The charming 2022 poster, designed by Alyssa Willey from Warren, ME, features a pig sporting a "necktie" of sunflowers and framed by a Ferris wheel.

The Windsor Historical Society

The fairgrounds are also home to the Windsor Historical Society. See what life was like back in the 19th century when you tour their collection of 12 restored buildings, including a blacksmith shop and a pottery shop. Don't miss the latest exhibits, the Weeks Mill Water Company Tower, and a post and beam lumber building. Entry is included in fair admission.

What to Do at the Fair

The Windsor Fair is packed with so many activities that it may be easier to list what's NOT available. Here's a look at some of the highlights:

  • With some of the largest purses of the year, harness racing is one of the fair's signature events. The races are so highly anticipated that they kick off a day before the official start of the fair. Admission is $10 for ages 12 and up.

  • What's a fair without a midway? Take a spin on the merry-go-round and try your luck at one of the games. Pint-sized Kiddie Land is adjacent to the main midway.

  • If you like wheels in motion, there's plenty of it at the fair. In addition to the demolition derby and truck and tractor pulls, there's a show featuring stunt drivers performing precision moves and breathtaking tricks.

  • Men and women compete in lumberjacking skills, including log rolling, crosscut sawing, and axe throwing, on the 26th annual Woodsman's Field Day.

  • There's live music playing just about every time of day and night. The Don Campbell Band, Laura Hudson, Downeast Brass, and the Scotty River Trio are just a few of the acts that will be performing in the grandstand, roadhouse, and other locations on the grounds.

  • Last year's winning jack-o'-lantern weighed 159 pounds. Who will take the giant pumpkin and squash prizes in 2022?

  • The Fiber Area will host demonstrations of spinning, weaving, felting, and rug hooking.
