Laundry Room Upgrade

The laundry room is an often-overlooked space inside your home. You deserve to have a laundry room that is functional, organized, and enjoyable to spend time in. If the laundry room in your home is more like a messy closet than a clean oasis, then consider these laundry room makeover tips from our real estate agents.

  • Install a Shelf Over the Washer and Dryer
If your laundry detergent and dryer sheets are on the floor next to your washer, what you need most is a shelf. A single shelf mounted over your washer and dryer can keep your laundry room tidier. There are plenty of pre-made shelves sold in home improvement stores. Choose one that's at least 8 inches wide so it can hold large detergent containers.

  • Wall-Mount Cabinets — and Paint Them White
Cabinets give you a place to hide things like dirty scrub brushes and rags. Even if you only have space for one wall-mounted cabinet, it's worth putting one up. Paint the cabinet white, if possible. This will make your laundry room look cleaner, more open, and fresh.

  • Add a Folding Table
Are you tired of having to haul your laundry baskets? A folding table in your laundry room will simplify your laundry process. If you have space, place the table in the middle of the room like a kitchen island. Keep this table clear, so it's always accessible for folding clothes.

  • Mount Some Hooks on the Door
Hang a few hooks on your laundry room door or on one wall. You can use these hooks for scrub brushes, spare bags, towels, and all of the other hangable items that tend to accumulate in the laundry room. Sticky-back hooks are easy to mount if you don't want to drill into your walls.

  • Put Down a Floor Mat
A floor mat or small area rug will make your laundry room more inviting and cozy. It will also keep you from having to stand on a cold floor as you do laundry in the winter. Look for a patterned area rug; these hide dirt the best.

  • Add a Dutch Door
A Dutch door is a door with separately swinging top and bottom halves. Consider installing one of these doors across the doorway to your laundry room. This way, you can open the top half of the door when you're doing laundry. You'll be able to peek your head in and check the washer or dryer. When the laundry room is messy, you can close both doors to block the view.

  • Install a Fold-Down Drying Rack
Instead of trying to find space to store a bulky drying rack, mount a fold-down one to the wall. There are some beautiful, pre-made ones that attach to the wall with just a couple of bolts. Paint the folding rack a color that contrasts with your wall color, so it stands out and doubles as decor.

  • Decorate With a Plant
Some greenery will make your laundry room look fresh and clean. Snake plants, spider plants, and sedums all go well with little light and should thrive in your laundry room.

If the laundry room in your new home needs a facelift, we hope the tips above serve you well. Should you still be looking at Augusta homes for sale, don't hesitate to contact us. We'll help you find the perfect place for your family.
