Once you've settled into your new home, what better way to celebrate than with a party? Ring in the New Year in your new house! Celebrate the new year in style with these tips for hosting a memorable New Year's Eve party.
- Photo Wall
Have an area where people can take photos and post them to their socials. Put up a banner and colorful decorations on one wall, and photo accessories nearby: hats, fake mustaches, glasses that say "2023," etc. If you or someone you're close with is into photography and has a good quality camera, that person can take the photos throughout the night and send them to people. Or people can just use their phones and have just as much fun.
- Reflections
Ask your guests to reflect on some of their good memories of 2022, particularly ones you've all had together. You can even ask them to bring a photo or keepsake from one of those memories to share with the rest of the group.
- Theme
There are all sorts of themes you can choose for your New Year's Eve party, from a masquerade ball to an upscale casino night to a comfy pajama party and more. You could also choose a decade for the theme - 60s, 80s, Roaring 20s, etc. Whatever you decide on, decorate accordingly and encourage guests to dress for it as well.
- Music
Your playlist for the night is of utmost importance. If you have a theme, try to choose some on-theme songs, but they don't all have to fit. Just choose a few tunes people will want to rock out to, dance to, etc. You can ask your guests for song suggestions as well and add them to the playlist.
- Karaoke
You no longer need a special machine or a suitcase full of CDs for karaoke. All you need is a TV that can access YouTube. Virtually any modern song you want to sing, Google it with the word "karaoke" tacked onto the end, and you'll find a karaoke video for it. Find a microphone you can pair with a Bluetooth speaker, and you've got everything you need.
- The Countdown
Be sure to have a plan for the countdown to 2023. The easiest thing to do is switch the TV to one of the many networks airing a New Year's Eve special from Times Square. It's always fun to count down as you watch the ball drop together. If you'd rather do something more interesting, though, you can put on a particular song or do something else to mark the stroke of midnight. Just be sure to keep an eye on the clock and get everyone prepared a few minutes in advance.
