Downtown Augusta

The downtown area is full of many local businesses and attractions that delight residents and tourists alike.

Our real estate agents find a delightful mix of traditional and modern attractions at these great destinations in downtown Augusta.

  1. Re-Popped - 214 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
When it comes to promoting art, creativity can overcome a limited budget. Pop-Up 265, a non-commercial art space that grew out of the 2016 Raw Space Art Walk, has moved down the street as Re-Popped. The storefront's large windows and shallow depth provide a unique contemporary art gallery that's accessible 24/7 to all passers-by.

  2. Rare Bird Art Studio - 319 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
After viewing the art at the nearby galleries, are you ready to try painting your own masterpiece? If that's the case, head on over to Rare Bird Art Studio. Their calendar is full of creative events you can sign up for to paint in the studio. Or sign up for the Ceramic of the Month Club, where you'll have art supplies mailed to you monthly and can craft from the comfort of your home.

  3. John Sullivan's Pub - 18 Bridge St., Augusta, ME 04330
John Sullivan's Pub, once known as The Black and Tan, blends Irish tradition with Maine history. The beautiful wooden booths were salvaged from a church in Southern Maine, while the menu features Emerald Isle favorites such as bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, and Scotch eggs. John Sullivan's is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

  4. Amour: A Curated World Market - 212 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
No passport is needed to travel around the globe at Amour: A Curated World Market. For years, people have asked the folks at Lilac Mixology & Catering about their incredible baked goods, meats and cheeses, and other popular dishes. With the opening of Amour, Lilac is making these items available to everyone. Hours are 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday.

  5. Downtown Diner - 204 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
What's a downtown district without an old-school diner? It doesn't get more classic than Downtown Diner. Enjoy a "home-cooked" breakfast or lunch without the work or dirty dishes. Their cinnamon buns are legendary, while the cheerful service and great view complete the experience. Downtown Diner is open 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday.

  6. Kennebec River Rail Trail - Augusta, ME 04330
The once-bustling train tracks that linked Portland and Augusta now form the backbone of the Kennebec River Rail Trail. This 6.5-mile pet-friendly asphalt trail, which follows the beautiful Kennebec River, is easy enough for a family outing. Watch for bald eagles hoping to pluck dinner from the river. Trail hours are dawn to dusk, seven days a week.

  7. Fort Western - 16 Cony St., Augusta, ME 04330
Dating back to the French and Indian War in 1754, Fort Western is the oldest surviving wood fort in New England. In 1920, the main building was restored to depict its original use as a trading post. Named a National Historic Landmark in 1973, Fort Western is open to the public during summer months as a museum. Visit the website for seasonal hours and admission prices.
