Kennebec Valley

After a long winter, our real estate agents are ready to get out and about this spring. The Augusta area is truly beautiful in every season, with plenty of activities to enjoy during the spring months! Take a hike, shoot nine holes, or sample some new brews this spring at these six locations around the Kennebec Valley.

  1. Kennebec River Rail Trail - Waterfront Park, Front St., Augusta, ME 04330
Walk, run, cycle, skateboard, or rollerblade your way along the scenic Kennebec River Rail Trail. The 6.5-mile route runs parallel to the inactive railroad tracks that once connected Portland and Augusta. With its proximity to the beautiful Kennebec River, the pet-friendly trail provides opportunities for fish and wildlife spotting. Use the parking and convenient access point at Waterfront Park, just minutes from Augusta homes for sale.

  2. Viles Arboretum - 153 Hospital St., Augusta, ME 04330
Just about everything nature has to offer can be found at Viles Arboretum. The 224-acre facility was used for agricultural purposes as recently as 1972. Follow the six-mile network of dog-friendly trails and explore 20 botanical collections, including conifers, lilacs, and nut trees. Viles Arboretum is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and admission is free.

  3. Cushnoc Brewing Co. - 243 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
Cushnoc Brewing Co. was "born on the Kennebec" just over five years ago, but their name goes back centuries. Augusta's earliest inhabitants referred to the settlement by its Native American name, "Cushnoc," which means "head of tide." The restaurant specializes in authentic wood-fired pies with toppings such as pancetta, Yukon Gold potatoes, and caramelized onions. Right down the street is Cushnoc's tasting room, which serves family-style appetizers and salads. Restaurant hours are 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday, when doors are open until 10 p.m. The tasting room is open to the public between May and October.

  4. Harrison Ave. Nature Trail - 243 Harrison Ave., Gardiner, ME 04345
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon with the family, including Fido, on the Harrison Ave. Nature Trail. The 0.8-mile round-trip trail is part of the Cobbossee Stream Conservation Area. Spring migration of alewives and American eels draws ospreys, bald eagles, great blue herons, and other magnificent birds. Mammals inhabiting the area include deer, river otters, and beavers.

  5. Western View Golf and Pub - 130 Bolton Hill Rd., Augusta, ME 04330
Time to pull the clubs out of storage and hit the links at Western View Golf and Pub. The course is open to the public with no tee times required. Afterward, relax in the homey clubhouse with its comfortable ambiance. Clubhouse amenities include a full-service restaurant and a spacious deck with spectacular views of Mount Washington. Visit the website for pricing and hours of operation.

  6. Bond Brook Mountain Biking Trails - 21-25 Bond Brook Rd., Augusta, ME 04330
Bond Brook Mountain Biking Trails encompass approximately 10 miles winding through the 270-acre wilderness area. Whatever your experience level, you'll find a trail to accommodate you. Visitors give high rankings to Double B, a 0.33-mile trail down the eastern face of the hill, and Bluff, also one-third of a mile, that parallels the Old Logging Road for a challenging ride.
