If you enjoy craft beer, the Kennebec Valley is a great place to be. The region has quite a bustling local beer scene, and there are many breweries, brew pubs, and restaurants where you can enjoy a pint with friends. This weekend, after looking at Augusta homes for sale, visit one of these top spots for a summer brew.
- Mainely Brews: 1 Post Office Square, Waterville, ME 04901
Mainely Brews is known for its friendly, neighborhood-bar atmosphere and spacious, sunny patio. It was the first microbrewery to open in Waterville and has quite a following. They pour six beers brewed in-house, plus they have guest taps from other local breweries.
Mainely Brews offers some great appetizers for sharing, including Nachos, Hand-Cut Onion Rings, and Sweet Potato Fries. You can't go wrong with the Steak & Cheese Flatbread or the Chicken Parmesan for an entree. The Mainely Mac N' Cheese is excellent, too.
- Cushnoc Brewing: 243 Water Street, Augusta, ME 04330
If you love IPAs, you have to visit Cushnoc Brewing. They make several different IPAs in-house. Double Dad Pants is a hazy IPA that rings in at 8.5% ABV and is made with three different types of hops. Head of Tide is another favorite; it has an incredible grapefruit aroma and smooth bitterness.
When it comes to food, Cushnoc is known for its wood-fired pizzas. The Capital City pizza, topped with roasted chicken, honey BBQ sauce, onion, red sauce, and mozzarella, is a favorite. Guests also enjoy the Crab Rangoon pizza, topped with real white claw crab meat and cream cheese sauce.
- Bateau Brewing: 149 Water Street, Gardiner, ME 04345
Bateau Brewing is a local brewery known for its Thursday Festivities. On Thursdays evenings, they have live music, and Mug Club members receive discounts on their beers. One of their top sellers is Reach, a beer made in collaboration with Outland Farm Brewing.
Bateau Brewing is a good place to try new beers and expand your palate near Gardiner homes for sale. They also sell most of their beer in cans, so you can grab more to take home and enjoy later.
- Grateful Grain Brewing Co.: 26 Route 126, Monmouth, ME 04259
Grateful Grain Brewing has ample outdoor seating, making it a perfect place to visit in the summer after looking at Monmouth homes for sale. They have a solid lineup of flagship beers, from their Fortitude Stout to Camp Road, a pale ale with late-addition hops.
Grateful Grain Brewing does not serve food, but you could grab a bite somewhere nearby before sitting down at their bar. They are open Thursday and Friday from 3 pm - 8 pm, Saturday from 12 pm - 8 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm - 6 pm.
- Oak Pond Brewing Company: 101 Oak Pond Rd., Skowhegan, ME 04976
Oak Pond Brewing Company specializes in making classic, old-world beers. They use important American hops, well water, and two-row malted barley. Their Somerset Lager, a traditional Czech-style pils, is a local favorite. Guests also enjoy the DoorYard Ale.
Oak Pond Brewing offers tours every Tuesday - Friday between 3:00 and 5:30 pm and Saturdays from 12:30 - 5:30 pm. The tours are led by the brewers themselves and teach you a lot about the brewing process.
