Augusta Burgers

A basic burger may seem to be a perfect food on its own, but just adding a slice of cheese takes it to a whole new level. Celebrate this iconic treat with National Cheeseburger Day on Wednesday, September 15, by dining at one of these fabulous restaurants near Augusta homes for sale

  • Two Maine Guys - 146 Mount Vernon Ave., Augusta, ME 04330
After you visit Two Maine Guys for the first time, they might become your "maine" go-to when you're craving a burger. Customers rave about the generous portions and reasonable prices of items such as the smokehouse burger, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, onion straws, and smokehouse mayo. Purists go for the regular burger, simply dressed with onion, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Burgers come with a side of hand-cut fries, or you can upgrade to onion rings or sweet potato fries. Two Maine Guys is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. - 7:45 p.m.

  • The Hott Dogg House - 170 Mount Vernon Ave., Augusta, ME 04330
Don't let the name fool you. Frankfurters are the signature attraction of The Hott Dogg House, but they put just as much care into preparing burgers. Their quarter-pound patties come in a classic version, or you can get the "royal" treatment with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. For those with bigger appetites, the half-pound Dually Burger includes the royal toppings along with the house sauce. Order a la carte or as a combo with crinkle fries and a beverage. Hours are 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. every day but Sunday.

  • State Lunch - 217 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
One food critic called State Lunch a gastropub that fits "the sweet spot between elevated and approachable." This award-winning restaurant offers a menu that changes to accommodate seasonal ingredients. Their imaginative Korean kimchi burger incorporates Eastern flavors with Asian BBQ sauce, kimchi slaw, and garlic chili mayo. Not a meat eater? You can still enjoy a vegetarian burger made with black beans, carrots, chipotle, and oats. State Lunch is open 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

  • John Sullivan's Pub - 18 Bridge St., Augusta, ME 04330
Pubs are known for first-rate burgers, and John Sullivan's Pub is no exception. With decor elements such as wood accents, "stone" walls, and church-pew bench seating, the comfy restaurant has the ambiance of a traditional pub. In addition to featuring classic Irish dishes on the menu, John Sullivan's adds a touch of green to the burgers as well. The massive Bare Knuckles burger is flavored with Guinness, and the Paddy Melt burger is served on rye bread with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese. Hours are 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

  • Riverfront Barbeque & Grill - 300 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
