Augusta Cafes

A wise but anonymous person once described hot chocolate as "a hug from the inside." During a cold Maine winter, that couldn't be more true! When our real estate agents feel a need for the warm embrace of cocoa, they head to these great restaurants and coffee shops near Augusta homes for sale

  1. Huiskamer Coffee House - 216 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
A visit to Huiskamer Coffee House is literally like going home. "Huiskamer" is a Dutch word meaning "living room," and owners Grace and Justin Fecteau want to provide a comfy haven for the community. Besides a variety of hot chocolate and "koffie" drinks, you can pick up great local products such as Mainely Bees Honey and pastries from B+T Baked Goods. Huiskamer is open 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. every day but Sunday.

  2. Bagel Mainea - 190 Western Ave., Augusta, ME 04330
Think you can't get a good bagel outside of NYC? Then you haven't been to Bagel Mainea, where bagels are made from scratch the traditional way. With more than two dozen sweet and savory flavors, you'll find something to satisfy any craving. Pair your hot chocolate with one of their specialty sandwiches, or enjoy your bagel with a classic shmear of cream cheese. Hours are 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. weekdays (closing time is 3 p.m. on Wednesday) and 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. weekends.

  3. Downtown Diner - 204 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
Having one of those days? Everything about Downtown Diner says "comfort," from the hot chocolate and homemade food to the friendly, welcoming ambiance. A hearty and filling meal of biscuits and gravy or meatloaf sandwich will put a smile on anyone's face. Breakfast is served all day. Downtown Diner is open 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday.

  4. Scrummy Afters Candy Shoppe
As much fun to prepare as they are to drink, the Hot Cocoa Bombs from Scrummy Afters Candy Shoppe will change your perspective on the definition of a beverage. Belgian chocolate chips, cocoa mix, and a homemade marshmallow are encased in a delicate chocolate shell. Simply drop into a mug of coffee or steamed milk to release the luscious magic. Scrummy Afters currently offers online ordering only, but Huiskamer Coffee House also stocks the Bombs as supplies allow.

  5. Cushnoc Brewing Co. - 243 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330
When you think "brewpub," hot chocolate may not be one of the top things that come to mind, but a fine hot chocolate is one of the non-alcoholic beverages offered at Cushnoc Brewing Co. Of course, the main attraction is gourmet woodfired pizzas such as the Crab Rangoon, topped with claw meat, cream cheese sauce, wonton strips, scallions, and sweet chili garlic drizzle. Don't see what you want? BYOP (build your own pie) from more than two dozen toppings. Hours are 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. seven days a week.

  6. Rebecca's Place - 434 Eastern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330
For more than 35 years, dining at Rebecca's Place has been compared to "going to Grandma's house to eat." Seafood platters, pasta, and other popular dishes are complemented by a full assortment of bread, pies, and pastries baked fresh in-house. Even the kids' menu has several delicious options to please the pickiest eater. Rebecca's Place is open 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
