Kennebec Farms

The end of summer doesn't mean the end of amazing fruits and vegetables. Our real estate agents will be picking up delicious local foods and seeing a farm animal or two at these great Kennebec Valley farms.

Plan ahead for the seasons changing, with this list of Kennebec Valley Farms to visit this fall. Plus, they are all just a short drive from Augusta homes for sale.

  • Lakeside Orchards - 318 Readfield Rd., Manchester, ME 04351
For more than 40 years, Lakeside Orchards has been providing apples, pears, and other farm-fresh products to the community surrounding Manchester homes for sale. As if working the orchard wasn't enough, in-house bakers go to work at 5 a.m. making fruit pies, bread, cider donuts, and turnovers. Treat family and friends to delicious Maine produce with a gift box featuring your choice of available apples along with maple syrup, honey, and other locally-produced items. Need another reason to visit? Follow them on Facebook to see the schedule of live music events. Hours are 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily.

  • Winterberry Farm - 538 Augusta Rd., Belgrade, ME 04917
Winterberry Farm is only minutes away from Belgrade homes for sale, but you'll feel like you've traveled back in time. The family-owned farm uses eco-friendly animal power to plant and maintain the crops. Buildings include a Victorian farmhouse dating back to the 1870s and a shaker-built barn that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Don't leave without a delicious Maine blueberry pie or some blueberry bread. During the winter months, head to Winterberry Farm for an old-fashioned sleigh ride along with ice skating and sledding. Winterberry Farm is open 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., seven days a week.

  • Misty Acres Alpaca Farm - 3071 W. River Rd., Sidney, ME 04220
This is definitely not Old McDonald's farm. Instead of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, Misty Acres Alpaca Farm features an assortment of quality fleece clothing and accessories. Stock up on sweaters, socks, scarves, jackets, and gloves that are perfect for those chilly Maine winters around Sidney homes for sale. Many of the products are made in the state with fibers from Misty Acres alpacas. The Laliberte family is happy to serve as ambassadors for alpaca farming, allowing visitors to get a close-up look at day-to-day operations. They also donate a portion of the profits to the Nunoa Project, which funds humanitarian aid and veterinary programs in Peru, where alpaca farming began. Hours at Misty Acres are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

  • North Star Orchards - 97 Orchard Rd., Madison, ME 04950
Nestled at the base of the western Maine mountains and overlooking the Kennebec River, North Star Orchards is more than just a picturesque stretch of land. The heavily wooded grounds create the optimum conditions for sustainable crop management, resulting in top-quality apples. North Star dates back to the mid-1800s when the farm was founded by the Salley family, part of the original settlers of the land where Madison homes for sale now sit. Today, the farm is owned and operated by two generations of the Dimock family. Bring your own family along and let the kids play in the sandbox while you relax on the deck of the restored 1800s farmhouse. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily through December 24 and weekends from January until August.
